Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

FERPA is a federal law (20 U.S.C. § 1232g) that protects the privacy of student education records. Rights transfer to the student at age 18 or upon enrollment in a school beyond the high school level. Students have the right to inspect their records, request corrections, and control disclosure of their information.

Schools may disclose records without consent to school officials with legitimate educational interest, other schools a student is transferring to, specified officials for audit or evaluation purposes, and in cases of health and safety emergencies, among other permitted conditions. For more information, contact the Family Policy Compliance Office, U.S. Department of Education, 400 Maryland Avenue SW, Washington, D.C. 20202-8520, or call 1-800-USA-LEARN (1-800-872-5327).

Standards of Academic Progress

Students are expected to maintain attendance, grades, and lab performance at acceptable levels throughout their program.

Academic Probation

Students who do not maintain attendance, grades, or lab performance at Larock standards may be placed on Academic Probation. If placed on probation, the student must complete an Academic Conference with the Academy Director to define goals for reaching satisfactory performance.

If grade averages fall to a point where graduating with a "C" or better becomes impossible, the situation will be reviewed with the student immediately by the Instructor and Director.

Re-Entrance After Dismissal

Students who have been dismissed, dropped out, or placed on Academic Probation may be readmitted at the discretion of the Academy Director. A student may be required to write an essay explaining how their behaviors will change.

Depending on the circumstances and program, a student may be required to re-pay part or all tuition and fees. Students with a previous default on their account must pay all outstanding balances and are not eligible for Larock's payment plan upon return.

Leave of Absence (LOA)

Larock recognizes that life events may require students to pause enrollment. A leave of absence may be granted to students in good standing (no grade below "C" in any program). Key rules:

  • Maximum leave: 6 weeks. No exceptions.
  • All program work in progress at the start of the leave must be completed before the leave begins.
  • Students not in good standing must have LOA requests reviewed by the Director and Instructor.
  • Any unpaid tuition must be paid during the leave period.
  • Students may appeal an LOA denial in writing to the Director.

Larock Healthcare Academy prepares students for professional healthcare settings. The policies below reflect that standard and are in effect during all classroom, lab, clinical, and externship time.

Larock is committed to accommodating students with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, ADA Amendments Act of 2008, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Students who need accommodations must submit a written request to the administrative office. Accommodations that are unduly burdensome or that alter the program's nature or curriculum cannot be guaranteed.

Larock assists students with job search preparation by offering resume and cover letter development and interview skills training for every program. A Job Board with relevant employment opportunities is maintained at each campus.

Larock does not guarantee employment.

Safety & Emergency Policies

Students are expected to fully cooperate with faculty, staff, and Directors in any emergency. In any life-threatening situation, call 911 immediately and then notify the Academy Director.

Personal items should be kept secured at all times. Larock is not responsible for theft or damage to vehicles or personal property. Any accident, theft, or injury requires completion of an incident report.

Exposure Incident Procedure

If a needle stick or exposure to blood or bodily fluid occurs, current CDC guidelines will be followed at the student's expense. The student must complete an Exposure Incident Form. Larock Healthcare Academy does not provide health insurance; all students are strongly encouraged to carry their own coverage.

For life-threatening emergencies, call 911. In hospital clinical settings, students should go directly to the Emergency Room.

Student Identification

Students in externship or clinical programs will be issued a photo ID card. ID must be carried during all clinical and externship sessions. Forgetting the ID may result in dismissal for that session, with the missed time at the student's expense.

Lost or stolen ID cards must be reported to the instructor. Replacement fee: $10.00.
